My name is Kamil Issi I born in 1970 I don?now exactly what month or what day of the month. I am a nomad of Hasan Mountains in central Turkey in Cappadocia region my tribe is called giylilar (kiyi nomads). I was one of the 13 children in my family. We have gained our bred from our Land (producing wheat, beans, corn, sunflower, melon, eggplants, pepper, ext.) and animals (sheep?Goats, Caws, Bulls, Donkeys, Horses, camels, chickens, ext.
In our tribe man is working outside they have the responsibility of bringing the bred home and women working at home they take care of the children and cook, clean, laundry and at the same time make carpets first to explain her feelings to others second with selling these they help to the family economy.
My Father died I was 6 years old we had noting no land and no animals the only think to do to earn our life was making carpets for years and years my mum and sister were making carpets day and night I was also helping them as much as I could when they finished the carpet dealers were coming to buy the carpet. They were offering so little money and one day I find out for what price they were selling the carpets they buy from us there was so huge different.
We were selling the carpets to the local dealers in Taspinar
And they were taking it to the town ( Aksaray) and selling to dealers in Aksaray
And they were taking it to Istanbul to the big wholesalers in Istanbul
And they were selling it to wholesalers around the world
And those wholesalers were distributing to the shops in their country
And they were selling to the final users.
I found out until to the final user the carpet we made has been changing 6 or 7 hands. So I decided to sell our carpets my self and first I took our carpets to Istanbul to sell than also our other tribe members carpets after a while I took all the other tribes carpets in our region to Istanbul and sold them for a better value there. This road which I was following took me here I established my company Golden horn Carpets in 1993 in Touristy region in Turkey Marmaris since than our company has been growing and with this page I am trying to reach also the carpet users all around the world and offer them our high quality carpets for the very cheep price. We are delivering carpets straight to users in more than 150 countries in the World.
Today we have a buying Tim of 16 people who travels all around Turkey. This Tim detects every tent, every tribe and buys carpets with trading the carpets with gold or clothes or Tee, Coffee Radio, TV ext.
Carpet making among our tribe is very important it is so important as if a young girl cant make a carpet she cant even get married. She is considered invalid or she is surely not intelligent enough. Because among our tribe people get married with family organization. For a young girl it?ery important to make a very beautiful carpet and explain her feelings, ideas, wishes, desires and her characteristics with the traditional designs (symbols). Mans family is the one who chooses the bride for their sun so they go around in tents and houses with looking for a suitable bride they can see the physical beauty by looking at to girl but to see the soil beauty you need to look to carpet she has made.
